However, the Paleo Diet encourages a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, nuts and seeds, fish and other sea food as well. It also includes healthy oils such as flaxseed, macadamia, coconut, avocado, olive and walnut oil. However, the major emphasis is placed on lean meat. That is meat from animals which have been grass-fed. Due to the emphasis on meat as a source of protein, Paleo Diets may be unsuitable for vegans and vegetarians.

The restrictions were necessary in the Paleo Diet, since most of what is restricted is carbohydrates. Carbohydrates get converted to glucose, which is then used by our body as energy. Any glucose which isn’t used is stored as fat in the fat cells. Now, some people with a healthy metabolism have efficient fat cells. They can release the fat to be used as energy when needed. Other fat cells do not release these stored glucose and instead make us feel hungrier and eat more when our body needs energy.

Moreover, carbohydrates contain glutens and lectins. Recent researchers have found that a large proportion of the world’s population is gluten-intolerant; hence many processed food packages come with labels of being “gluten-free”. It has harmful health effects, such as acid reflux, joint pains, dermatitis, etc. Lectins grow on grains as natural toxins, which affect our gastrointestinal tract and hinder its growth and repairing process. Similarly, sugar turns to fat unless it is used up by the cells immediately, which is the reason why many people feel hyperactive after having lots of sugar. This is caused by the energy spike it creates. Processed food contains artificial chemicals which are more difficult for our body to break down.

Instead, when we chose to consume the Paleo Diet.  Lack of carbohydrate intake in our diets forces our bodies to burn our stored fat to produce energy. The little amount of carbohydrate which is essential is required by our bodies can be acquired through vegetables. Since they do not need to be processed in any way, these foods will give us carbohydrates. These carbohydrates can be burned more easily by our digestive system. Furthermore, these foods can be consumed in large quantities without risks of gaining weight. The issue of milk is debatable. Milk is recommended up to infancy but can have additional benefits when consumed. However, it does add calories to our diet. Given the amount of nutrients we can gain from other sources, milk can therefore be consumed occasionally.
